The player's final score is classified by a ranking system, ranging from the following from worst to best: E, D, C, B, A and S. If the latter occurs, the amount of extra lives and unused Bomb Jumps are added up for extra points. The game ends when Pac-Man loses all his remaining lives or the course's time limit expires. The Runaway Bubble moves slightly slower than Pac-Man, and doesn't turn midway through its path, allowing the player to plan out how to trap and capture the bubble. In the later maze segments, beginning after the second loop of bonus fruits, bonus fruits and Power Pellets will become enclosed in Runaway Bubbles, which will flee from Pac-Man when he approaches it. In certain levels, the player can also use jump pads to jump over parts of a maze (a feature originating from Pac-Man Arrangement), with the landing points being indicated by a line. The 1UP Pac-Man will disappear if it remains uncollected when Pac-Man advances to the next maze segment. At every 1,000,000 points, a "1UP Pac-Man" appears near the center of the maze, which gives Pac-Man an extra life when eaten. DX's 22), which are the original 1980 Pac-Man fruits plus Bananas and Peaches. Only ten bonus items appear in this version (as opposed to C.E. In addition to Bomb Jumps, Pac-Man can break by pressing the Break button, allowing him to stop in place to avoid collision with the ghosts. Pac-Man can hold up to 20 Bomb Jumps per game. Bomb Jumps are earned by eating all the Pac-Dots in a maze. Bombs (now known as Bomb Jumps) return in Championship Edition 2 albeit functioning differently: Bomb Jumps now return Pac-Man to the maze's center, letting him escape ghosts or quickly eat the bonus fruit/Power Pellet in the center. The amount of leader ghosts appearing in a maze depend on the current maze segment (except in a course's Extreme mode, where all four leader ghosts are always present). Power Pellet effects can be renewed by eating Ghosts. If Pac-Man takes too long to eat the leader ghosts, they will eventually slow down before the Power Pellet effects wear off. Though the leader ghosts move at extreme speeds, ghost trails will appear on the maze, indicating areas where the scared ghosts will attempt to flee. These Minion ghosts will gradually group to a single leader when eaten, it will trigger an "Airborne Gobblefest" where the Minion ghost train flies off the maze in a 3D perspective, with Pac-Man speeding through ghost chomping until he lands above the bonus fruit location. By eating a leader ghost, Pac-Man will automatically chomp on each of the Minion ghosts with each of the leader ghost's Minions scattering to the remaining leader ghosts, allowing for a gradual increase in points when each leader ghost and their Minions are eaten. In this game, the ghosts must be eaten straight on from their leader, unlike Championship Edition DX where they could also be eaten from behind. Minions merge into their leader ghosts when they enter their angry state, but return back to Ghost Train form when the leader ghost returns to normal. Passing by Sleeping Minions will awaken the Minions and add them to a trail behind the other leader ghosts, allowing for large point bonuses when eaten. Across the mazes, Sleeping Minions will spawn in large amounts. The ghosts will jump into the air while entering their angry state, giving Pac-Man a chance to run. Unlike previous iterations of Pac-Man, in which touching ghosts would instantly kill Pac-Man, ghosts and their Minions can now be bumped into up to three times (once in the Extreme mode) in succession before they enter an Angry state, during which touching them will cause Pac-Man to lose a life. Taking control of Pac-Man, players go through various mazes collecting pellets while avoiding roaming ghosts Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde.Ĭollecting the required amount of Pac-Dots indicated by a meter on the bottom of the screen reveals either a bonus item that sends Pac-Man to the next maze segment (though in some cases, all Pac-Dots need to be eaten to proceed to the next maze usually following a Power Pellet maze), or a Power Pellet that can be used to eat ghosts. Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 builds upon the gameplay introduced in the Pac-Man Championship Edition and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. 5.2 Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus.2.2 Changes to Pac-Man Championship Edition 2.
